Earlier this year in April, I again had the honor of judging the AustinISD UIL Guitar Ensemble Competitions for Austin Classical Guitar. This was year #5 of being able to be rejoin the judging panel and I'm always so very grateful for this opportunity. Year after year, there are numerous groups of students who practice and work hard year-round to perform as a large classical guitar ensemble, and it's always a privilege to hear that hard work come to fruition. (I couldn't help but take a photo during the warm-up minutes for the first group of the day.)

This year there were over 35 groups comprised of students who performed for concert and sight-reading, with multiple groups coming from all over the city of Austin, and even Bastrop. Lots of love goes out to the students of McCallum High School for performing my piece "Cairns", which I composed last year for the Level 5 sight-reading portion and GuitarCurriculum. It was a real treat to see my piece performed six feet in front of me and they did a fantastic job!
