Teaching

Since 2010, Ms. Avila has had the privilege of teaching all ages (from 4 - 80+) having gained experience as both a private guitar instructor and group class instructor through several music studios and academies, such as the UTRGV Music Academy (formerly the UTB Music Academy) the Ivy Academy of Music (Austin, Texas) and MusiK (Brownsville, Texas); numerous self-employed private sessions, guitar/music summer camps, and previous other music programs. Though able to teach a wide range of different genres, she places great emphasis on proper playing technique and alignment, the rudimentary principles, and music theory without avoiding the most important element of music – fun!

As a classical guitar tutor, Ms. Avila’s students have ranged in levels of tutelage, several of which have performed small individual recitals, been awarded the UTRGV Music Academy "Student of the Week" award, and competed in the Brownsville Young Artists Festival (some of which have received "Superior" ratings), prepared for university auditions, and auditioned for universities.

Today, she teaches privately all over Austin, Texas (and surrounding areas within Austin City Limits) , having taught all over the Rio Grande Valley having students in Brownsville, Los Fresnos, Rancho Viejo, Port Isabel, South Padre Island, Harlingen, Palm Valley, and Combes.

As of 2014, Ms. Avila has been licensed with the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and State of Texas Education board as a certified educator. A love of music and teaching keeps Ms. Avila focused on constant pedagogical improvement.
